A Rose Can Heal A Broken Heart

HEALING PROPERTIES OF A ROSE.

Came across this shopping for groceries this morning.

I read recently that they have found rose fossils across America that date back 30 MILLION years. To me, a rose is a reminder that beauty and love are the most powerful healing properties; they make us durable. When I say beauty I mean something that has the power to access our hearts, anything that has the power to break through the calcifications of protection. Beauty can be found anywhere; it is like gratitude, a practice. When I first started photographing flowers decades ago - they were my first muse - I mostly liked to photograph dying flowers. It is in the death and re-birth, the loss and the bloom that I am always drawn.

SAVORING PRACTICE

We are designed for survival, because this is our first brain (Reptilian Brain) sole purpose it is our number one priority, to stay alive! If you are afraid that you are going to be eaten by a Saber Tooth Cat, you are not going to be chilling watching the sunset. Because of this innate drive to survive our brains are designed to register Negative/ Dangerous experiences immediately and store them under This could happen again, make sure you always look out for it! This is referred to as the Negativity Bias.

BUT it takes 15 SECONDS for the brain to store a positive experience. 15 SECONDS is actually a long time to stare at something and proclaim to love it, but when we do we are in essence telling our nervous system that it is safe to love, to enjoy, to relax. We are re-wiring our brains to safety, to find beauty and joy. I particularly love doing this on days when I am feeling like I am eating all my own feelings like cake.

Today go out and find ONE thing that you LOVE and say out loud I really love this, this is so beautiful, say whatever you want, but SAVOR IT for at least 15 seconds. I always say it out loud. I also often say my name, because I think it helps my brain know I’m not messing around.
